Pros:
Solid weight - reduces table noise
Tactile (old school) Mute Switch
Lock Ring
Cons
No LED - but I acknowledge that unless you do some electronics in there, a LED could lead to an increased noise pop on activation
Overall
I have been happily buying these for a few years well. I see the note about the mute switch - the simplest design (see Shure website) simply shunts the mic signal through a large capacitor. No simple mute switch would completely mute the signal while eliminating pops. More complex electronic ones do. The level of bleed depends on the impedance characteristics of the mic. I experienced no problem with Shure CVG and MX mics.
The real advantage of this model is the connector lock ring that nobody talks about. Its use is to rigidly secure the base/mic XLR connection. I think they are made by CAD but I see Tascam using a similar design. You have to turn the lock so that it jams against the mic connector. Without it that connection would become loose over time as users pull the mike whichever way. XLR connectors not really designed to take too much physical force.
